Black Lace Guidelines for Wicked Words series
Adam Nevill Black Lace Editor Virgin Publishing Ltd Thames Wharf Studios Rainville Road London W6 9HA
http://www.blacklace-books.co.uk/
First things first. We accept submissions from female authors only, with no exceptions.
The Wicked Words series of short stories has proved very popular. As from spring 2005 we will produce Wicked Words themed collections at the rate of 2-4 per year. These rules will apply: your short story should be approximately 4,000 - 6,000 words long and not published anywhere in the world - websites excepted. Thematically, it should be written with the Black Lace guidelines in mind, although slightly more envelope-pushing and experimental storylines are welcome. Ideally there should be a 'sting in the tale' and an element of dramatic tension.
Obviously you will not be tied to having to provide detailed plot, numerous characters and enough varied types of sex to fill a novel, but the story should be about more than 'some people having sex'. Black Lace authors - and the readers - tend to write/like material hotter than this.
The key words apply: experimental; forbidden; transgressive; decadent; liberating. For a good idea of the kind of stories we like, get hold of a Wicked Words compilation.
We pay a flat fee of £200 providing your story is over 4000 words. Payment is made on publication.
Competition rules will apply to short stories. you will hear back from us about your story only if it has been successful. We cannot give individual feedback on short stories as we receive far too many for this to be possible.
We're looking for the following themes:
Sex and Music - (deadline for stories end of January 2006)
Sex and Shopping - fashion can also be included (deadline for stories end of April 2006)
Important guideline details and submission information, please read Black Lace guidelines.

cellmates know how. Sometimes, a hot guard or warden gets in on the action.
I am seeking well-written stories that are erotic, not pornographic. I am interested in muscle men, twinks, everyday Joes, cops, guards and wardens, along with other men who end up doing behind bars what they never would have considered on the outside. These men end up in small town jails, county lock-ups, state prisons and maximum security facilities. They spend 24 hours a day in the company of dangerous men and even the few who are less dangerous. Whichever they are, they only seek a release for their pent up sexual desires. I am seeking real stories in which sex derives naturally and logically from the characters and from the story. I want well-developed characters, plots, situations, settings, and internal consistency. Humor is greatly appreciated as these characters are meant to have fun and enjoy themselves. However, we do ask that you do not include extremely violent rape, beating or murder scenes.
Feel free to query me (Eric Summers) about the thinking you may have about a story for this anthology at eric@starbookspress.com

Guidelines:
Submit your query to eric@starbookspress.com in the body of an email - no attachments please. Include a short bio, your name, postal and e-mail addresses and a 5 paragraph excerpt of your story. Indicate whether or not your submission has been previously published and, if so, where and when. You don't need to sell your story in the letter; your work will speak for itself. If your query is accepted, I will be in contact with you about submitting the complete work. The end product should be no more than 8 pages of single spaced 12 pt. type. Be sure your query has been proofed and edited. Sloppy submissions and poorly written stories will not be considered.
All accepted submissions will be subject to editing, with the contributor rewriting the work to spec. Contributors will be paid upon publication and receive one contributor's copy of the anthology.
